WHAT YOUR PASTOR'S WIFE NEEDS FROM YOU

Pastor's wives. The First Lady of the church. The mother of the church. They are special. They have a calling on their lives just as much as their husband, the pastor, does and they need us.

I come from a family of pastors. My mom is a lead pastor at her church. My husband has been a children's pastor, an associate pastor, and is now a ministry associate at our church. I have served alongside my husband as children's pastor as well as been a children's pastor myself when he stepped into role of associate pastor. I've also served on some incredible ministry teams with amazing women.

Today I want to share ways you can come along side your pastor's wife and help her.

PRAY FOR YOUR ENEMIES

But I tell you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you.
Matthew 5:44 CSB

This week we've been reading in 2 Samuel. We began the book by seeing David's response to the death of Saul and his sons. We know that David and Jonathan, Saul's son, had a close friendship. Jonathan helped David escape Saul attempt on his life on several occasions. So, of course, David mourned the death of his dear friend. However, the Bible tells us that David mourned both Saul and Jonathan.

Then David took hold of his clothes and tore
them, and all the men with him did the same.
They mourned, wept, and fasted until the
evening for those who died by the sword—for
Saul, his son Jonathan, the Lord’
people, and the house of Israel.
2 Samuel 1:11 CSB

Saul tried to kill David multiple times. He was jealous of David and wanted to end his life. Why should David mourn him? No one would have blamed him for feeling relief! In fact, he wouldn't have been blamed for rejoicing. He no longer had to run for his life or hide in caves. He was finally free from the threats of Saul.

Yet, he didn't feel relief and he certainly didn't rejoice. He mourned. He mourned for an enemy who wanted to end his life.

DON'T LET BEAUTY PASS YOU BY

The heavens declare the glory of God, and
the expanse proclaims the work of His hands.
Psalm 19:1 CSB

Recently my husband and I took a long weekend away, a mini vacation. I have one word to describe our time away: glorious.

During our four days away, we rarely turned the TV on, and when we did it was for a short time to enjoy a show together. We stayed off of our phones, even left our phones behind while we went on walks or enjoyed outside.

We spent a lot of time outside. We went on walks, laid in the grass, swayed in the hammock, watched the clouds float by, listened to the whistle of the birds, and talked. And every moment of it was wonderful.

We have become people who continually need screens in front of us. We aren't comfortable unless a phone is in our hands. And we would never dare leave our home without a phone! We've also become people who always need something to do. We have to be entertained at every turn. We can watch movies and TV shows from our phone, we have endless thirty-second videos at the swipe of a finger, and find amusement from countless memes and stories. All in the palm of our hand at any moment of the day.
